Trypsin and chymotrypsin are absorbed in the small intestine. They act on the exudative phase of inflammation by breaking down peptide bonds at the inflammation site. Both enzymes are absorbed and inhibited by circulating enzyme inhibitors, whose levels increase due to trauma and various inflammatory processes. Ametripsi reduces swelling and has anti-inflammatory effects. It also enhances the bioavailability of antibiotics in the inflammatory focus.
