It is used to treat high blood pressure or chest pain, known as angina.
The preparation Amlodipine (AMLODIPINE) contains amlodipine besilate as the active substance.
Amlodipine is prescribed for:
The treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
Chest pain known as angina pectoris
In such cases, amlodipine may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other medications.
For both high blood pressure and chest pain, the recommended dose of amlodipine is 5 mg once daily. If necessary, your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 10 mg per day.
Take amlodipine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It may help to take the medicine at the same time each day, for example with breakfast, lunch, or before bed. Do not stop taking the medicine on your own.
Use in patients with liver disease:
The starting dose is 2.5 mg once daily, with the possibility of gradually increasing the dose.
Use in children (ages 6–17):
The recommended dose is 2.5–5 mg once daily.
Allergic reaction to amlodipine or any of the excipients
Very low blood pressure (systolic blood pressure <90 mmHg)
Like all medicines, amlodipine may cause side effects. The most common side effects include:
Swelling (edema)
Headache
However, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of the following symptoms:
Fatigue, severe drowsiness
Abdominal pain, nausea
Dizziness
Store amlodipine out of the reach of children, at room temperature (15–30°C), and protected from light.
