Each tablet contains:
Amoxicillin (trihydrate) – 500 mg
Clavulanic acid (potassium salt) – 125 mg
Excipients: colloidal silica, potato starch, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose 5, hypromellose 15, macrogol 4000, macrogol 6000, titanium dioxide (E171), dimethicone.
Augmentin is a bactericidal antibiotic that destroys infection-causing bacteria. It is used in children and adults for the treatment of:
Middle ear infections and sinusitis
Respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections, including dental infections
Bone and joint infections
Allergy to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any component of Augmentin
History of severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics (rash, facial or throat swelling)
Liver problems or jaundice associated with antibiotic use
Consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking Augmentin if the patient has:
Mononucleosis
Liver or kidney disease
Irregular urination
It is essential to complete the full treatment course. Inform your doctor if blood or urine tests are being conducted, as Augmentin may alter laboratory results.
Allopurinol may increase the risk of skin allergy
Probenecid may require dose adjustment
Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) require additional blood monitoring
Augmentin may affect methotrexate action
Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Do not drive or operate machinery if feeling unwell.
Take Augmentin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Tablets should be taken whole with a glass of water before meals.
Maintain at least 4 hours between doses. Do not take two doses together. Do not use for more than 2 weeks.
Adults and children over 40 kg:
Therapeutic dose: 1 tablet twice daily
High dose: 1 tablet three times daily
Children under 40 kg:
Children under 6 years: use Augmentin oral suspension
For tablets in children under 40 kg, consult a doctor or pharmacist
Patients with liver or kidney disease:
Dose adjustments may be necessary. Frequent blood tests may be required to monitor liver function. The prescribing physician decides on dose correction or replacement if needed.
Symptoms may include gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) or cramps. Contact a doctor immediately and keep the medication or packaging available.
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered. Do not double the next dose if less than 4 hours remain until the next scheduled dose.
Discontinue treatment and contact a doctor if any of the following occur:
Skin rash
Inflammation of blood vessels (red or bluish spots on the skin or other parts of the body)
Fever, joint pain, seizures
Swelling of glands, throat, armpits, or groin
Fainting
