This medication must always be taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor. In case of doubts or questions, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Unless otherwise directed, the general dosage is as follows:
Adults and adolescents weighing 45 kg or more:
For upper and lower respiratory infections, acute otitis media, and skin and soft tissue infections, the total treatment dose is 1.5 g of azithromycin, which can be distributed over a 3-day or 5-day course.
3-day regimen: Take 1 tablet (500 mg azithromycin) once daily for 3 days.
5-day regimen: Alternatively, a 5-day treatment can be used, with 1 tablet (500 mg) once on the first day, followed by half a tablet (250 mg) once daily for the next 4 days.
Dosage for uncomplicated genital infections:
Chlamydia trachomatis: Recommended total dose is 1000 mg azithromycin taken as a single dose.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae: Recommended dose is 1000 mg or 2000 mg azithromycin combined with 250 mg or 500 mg ceftriaxone, based on local clinical guidelines. If allergic to penicillins and/or cephalosporins, treatment should be guided by a doctor according to local protocols.
If the patient is pregnant, breastfeeding, suspects pregnancy, or plans pregnancy soon, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is required before taking the medication.
Pregnancy: There is still insufficient experience regarding the safety of azithromycin (active substance in Azithromycin Denk) in pregnant women. For precaution, treatment during pregnancy should only be used in exceptional cases. The treating doctor will decide based on the unique situation.
Lactation: Azithromycin passes into breast milk. There is no reliable information on the safety of azithromycin for newborns; therefore, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with this medication. Azithromycin may cause sensitization, disturbance of intestinal flora, and fungal colonization in newborns. It is recommended to express and discard breast milk during treatment and for 2 days after treatment ends. Breastfeeding can be resumed afterward.
Based on accumulated experience, azithromycin does not affect concentration and quick reaction ability. However, certain side effects may impact the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Keep the medication out of reach of children.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date is the last day of the indicated month.
