Amlodipine Biogaran is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) or certain types of chest pain.
The active substance is: Amlodipine – 5 mg
Amlodipine Biogaran is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or certain types of chest pain called angina, including a rare form known as Prinzmetal's angina.
In patients with high blood pressure, this medication works by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them.
In patients with angina, Amlodipine Biogaran works by improving blood supply to the heart muscle, which then receives more oxygen. This helps to prevent chest pain.
Note: This medicine does not provide immediate relief of chest pain caused by angina.
The recommended starting dose of Amlodipine Biogaran is 5 mg once daily. If necessary, this may be increased to 10 mg once daily.
Route of administration: oral.
This medicine may be taken before or after food and drink. It is best to take it at the same time each day with a glass of water.
Do not take Amlodipine Biogaran with grapefruit juice.
For children and adolescents (aged 6 to 17 years), the usual recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 5 mg per day.
Note: Amlodipine Biogaran 2.5 mg gelatin capsules are not currently available.
It is very important to continue your treatment as prescribed. Be sure to consult your doctor before running out of capsules.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy:
The safety of amlodipine in pregnant women has not been established. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor before taking Amlodipine Biogaran.
Breastfeeding:
Amlodipine has been found to pass into breast milk in small amounts. If you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, inform your doctor before taking Amlodipine Biogaran.
Amlodipine Biogaran may affect your ability to drive or use machines.
If you experience dizziness, fatigue, or headache while taking the gelatin capsules, do not drive or operate machinery, and consult your doctor immediately.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
