What Rilmenidine Grindeks is and what it is used for:
Rilmenidine Grindeks is used in adults for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains the active substance rilmenidine, which lowers blood pressure. After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed and its effect lasts for 24 hours.
What Rilmenidine Grindeks contains:
– The active substance: rilmenidine. Each tablet contains 1 mg of rilmenidine, equivalent to 1.544 mg of rilmenidine dihydrogen phosphate.
– Other ingredients: cellulose, microcrystalline; crospovidone type B; talc; magnesium stearate.
What you need to know before you take Rilmenidine Grindeks
Do not use if:
– you are allergic to rilmenidine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
– you suffer from severe depression,
– you have severe kidney failure (creatinine clearance < 15 ml/min),
– you are taking any medicine containing sultopride (used to treat psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia).
Warnings and precautions:
Before using Rilmenidine Grindeks, consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
– Never stop treatment suddenly; if treatment needs to be discontinued, the dose must be gradually reduced according to the doctor’s instructions.
– Inform your doctor if you have a recent history of cardiovascular disease (stroke, myocardial infarction).
– Treatment should be carried out under regular medical supervision.
– If you are elderly, be cautious, as standing up may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and increase the risk of falls.
– If you are taking medicines for heart failure (beta-blockers) or depression (MAO inhibitors), consult your doctor, as their combination with Rilmenidine Grindeks is not recommended.
– Avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
Children and adolescents:
Rilmenidine Grindeks must not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Other medicines and Rilmenidine Grindeks:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Do not take Rilmenidine Grindeks together with:
– sultopride (used to treat psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia).
Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following, as they should not be combined with Rilmenidine Grindeks:
– beta-blockers (bisoprolol, carvedilol, metoprolol) used for heart failure,
– sodium oxybate (used for narcolepsy),
– MAO inhibitors (used for depression).
Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following, as special care may be needed:
– baclofen (used to treat muscle spasms, such as in multiple sclerosis),
– beta-blockers (used for high blood pressure, angina, and chest pain),
– medicines for arrhythmia (quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, dofetilide, ibutilide, sotalol),
– certain neuroleptics (“tranquilizers” used for mental disorders): chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, thioridazine, amisulpride, sulpiride, tiapride, droperidol, haloperidol, pimozide,
– halofantrine (antiparasitic used for certain types of malaria),
– mizolastine (used for allergic reactions such as hay fever),
– moxifloxacin, IV erythromycin, IV spiramycin (antibiotics for infections),
– pentamidine (used for certain types of pneumonia),
– IV vincamine (used in elderly patients for cognitive disorders including memory loss),
– bepridil (used for angina),
– cisapride, diphemanil (used for gastrointestinal disorders),
– tricyclic antidepressants (used for depression),
– antihypertensive drugs other than Rilmenidine Grindeks.
Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following, as their combination with Rilmenidine Grindeks must be considered:
– alpha-blockers (used for high blood pressure),
– amifostine (used in chemotherapy and radiotherapy),
– corticosteroids (used in many conditions including severe asthma and rheumatoid arthritis),
– tetracosactide (used for Crohn’s disease, oral therapy) (except hydrocortisone for Addison’s disease),
– other neuroleptics (used for psychiatric disorders),
– imipramine antidepressants (used for depression),
– other centrally acting medicines which may affect alertness when combined with Rilmenidine Grindeks:
Morphine derivatives (painkillers, antitussives, substitution therapy),
anti-anxiety or sleeping medicines (benzodiazepines, anxiolytics, hypnotics, neuroleptics),
sedative H1 antihistamines (for allergy and allergic reactions),
antidepressants (amitriptyline, doxepin, mianserin, mirtazapine, trimipramine),
other centrally acting antihypertensive agents,
baclofen (for muscle rigidity, such as in multiple sclerosis),
thalidomide (used for certain cancers),
pizotifen and indoramine (used for migraine attacks).
Rilmenidine Grindeks with alcohol:
Avoid alcohol during treatment.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy:
Use during pregnancy is not recommended.
Breastfeeding:
Do not take Rilmenidine Grindeks if you are breastfeeding. Inform your doctor immediately if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
Driving and using machines:
Rilmenidine Grindeks may cause drowsiness; therefore use caution, as it may reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery.
How to take Rilmenidine Grindeks:
Take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Dosage:
This medicine is intended for adult patients only.
The recommended dose is 1 tablet once daily in the morning at the start of a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
If the response after one month of treatment is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 2 tablets daily (1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening) before meals.
As this medication is well tolerated, rilmenidine may be prescribed to elderly and diabetic patients.
If you take more Rilmenidine Grindeks than you should:
Overdose may cause a drop in blood pressure and reduced alertness. In such cases, contact a doctor or pharmacist immediately.
If you forget to take Rilmenidine Grindeks:
If you forget a dose, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.
If you stop taking Rilmenidine Grindeks:
Never stop treatment suddenly; your doctor will gradually reduce the dose.
If you have further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects:
If you experience symptoms of slow heart rate (bradycardia) such as dizziness, weakness, or fatigue, contact your doctor.
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
– anxiety, depression, insomnia,
– drowsiness, headache, dizziness,
– palpitations (rapid heartbeat),
– cold hands and/or feet,
– stomach pain, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation,
– rash, itching,
– muscle cramps,
– sexual dysfunction,
– weakness, fatigue, swelling (edema).
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
– flushing, drop in blood pressure upon standing,
– nausea.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
– shortness of breath.
Unknown frequency:
– slow heartbeat (bradycardia).

How to store Rilmenidine Grindeks:
– Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
– Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister after “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
– Do not store above 25°C.
– Do not dispose of the medicine via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures help protect the environment.
