Tacrolin 0.1% ointment is used for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults for whom conventional therapies, such as topical corticosteroids, are either ineffective or not well tolerated.
Active substance: Contains tacrolimus monohydrate, equivalent to 1.0 mg of tacrolimus.
Excipients: Liquid paraffin, white wax, propylene carbonate, petrolatum.
Tacrolin 0.1% ointment is used for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults in whom conventional therapies, such as topical corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory medications containing cortisone used in various conditions), do not provide adequate results or are not well tolerated.
Once severe atopic dermatitis is resolved or nearly resolved after a 6-week treatment period, and if the patient experiences frequent relapses (such as four or more per year), recurrence prevention or prolongation of the relapse-free interval can be achieved by using Tacrolin 0.1% ointment twice weekly.
In cases of atopic dermatitis (eczema), the immune system in the skin overreacts, leading to inflammation (itching, redness, dryness). Tacrolin modifies this pathological immune response and helps relieve skin inflammation and itching.
Proper usage and dosage/frequency
Tacrolin should always be used according to your doctor’s instructions. If the patient is unsure, they should consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Method and route of administration:
Tacrolin should be applied as a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin.
It can be used on most parts of the body, including the face, neck, and flexural areas such as elbows and knees.
The ointment should not be applied inside the mouth, nose, or eyes. If contact occurs, remove it and/or rinse thoroughly with water.
Do not cover the treated area with bandages or wraps.
Hands should be washed after applying Tacrolin, unless the hands themselves are being treated.
After bathing or showering, ensure the skin is completely dry before applying Tacrolin.
Adult patients (16 years and older):
For adults (16 years and older), two strengths of Tacrolin are available: Tacrolin 0.03% ointment and Tacrolin 0.1% ointment. The prescribing physician will determine the appropriate strength for the patient.
In general, treatment should start with Tacrolin 0.1% ointment applied twice daily, in the morning and evening, and continued until the symptoms of eczema subside. Based on the treatment response, the doctor may reduce the frequency of application or switch to Tacrolin 0.03% ointment if appropriate.
Each affected area of the skin should be treated until the eczema is cleared. Improvement is usually seen within one week. If no improvement is observed after two weeks, consult a doctor regarding alternative treatment options.
The doctor may prescribe Tacrolin 0.1% ointment twice weekly after the atopic dermatitis has fully or almost fully resolved. Tacrolin 0.1% ointment is used once per day, twice a week (e.g., Monday and Thursday) on areas of the body typically affected by eczema. There should be a 2-3 day interval between applications.
If symptoms recur, Tacrolin should be applied twice daily as previously described, and a doctor should be consulted to reassess the treatment plan.
Keep Tacrolin out of reach of children and in its original packaging.
Store at room temperature, below 25°C.
