About Product

Mounjaro® Solution for Injection 5 mg/0.6 mL – 4-dose Pen Injector

Composition:

5 mg/0.6 mL multidose pre-filled pen.

What is Mounjaro and what is it used for?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription medication used in adults with type 2 diabetes to help control blood sugar (glucose) levels.
It is also used to treat obesity or overweight (with a BMI of at least 27 kg/m²) in adults who have weight-related health conditions (such as prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal blood lipid levels, etc.).

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, belonging to a new class of medications known as incretin mimetics.

Each pen contains four fixed doses of the specified strength. For example, a 15 mg pen contains a total of 60 mg tirzepatide (4 doses × 15 mg), each dose being 0.6 mL.
Patients administer one dose per week, so each pen is intended for use over the course of one month.

How Mounjaro Works:

Mounjaro is the first dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It acts on glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors.
Mounjaro lowers blood sugar levels by:

  • Helping the pancreas produce more insulin,

  • Reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver,

  • Slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach,
which helps prolong the feeling of fullness and may reduce food intake.
All of this contributes to maintaining stable blood sugar levels throughout the day.

Side Effects of Mounjaro:

The most common side effects (in ≥5% of patients) include:
nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, and abdominal pain.

Stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

  • Hives,

  • Trouble breathing.

Call your doctor if you experience:

  • Severe stomach problems,

  • Gallbladder issues with symptoms like stomach pain after eating,

  • Kidney problems (little or no urination, swelling in the feet, fatigue, or shortness of breath).

Do not use this medication if:

  • You are allergic to tirzepatide.

  • You have a personal or family history of a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC).

  • You have a condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Inform your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Pancreatic problems,

  • Kidney disease,

  • Or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding.

Mounjaro may make birth control pills less effective.

How to Use Mounjaro:

  • Inject once a week into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm at any time of day.

  • Try to take it on the same day each week.

  • Remember: each pen contains four doses of the specified strength.
One dose per week = one pen per month.

Mounjaro Dosing Information (for adults with type 2 diabetes):

  • Starting dose: 2.5 mg subcutaneously once weekly.

  • After 4 weeks: increase to 5 mg subcutaneously once weekly.

  • If additional glycemic control is needed: increase by 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks on the current dose.

  • Maximum dose: 15 mg once weekly.

Your doctor may increase your dose stepwise to 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg, depending on your needs.
Do not adjust your dose unless instructed by your doctor.
